Most joinery is square. Some of it isn't. When a drawing calls for an arch, a radius or a shape that doesn't come out of a standard catalogue, that tends to be the point where suppliers start saying no. It's the point where we get interested.

Ryan has been building special projects alongside windows and doors since S & K started in 2016. Bring him a plan, a sketch, or a photo of something you've seen and liked, and he'll work out how to make it. Architects, designers and builders deal with him directly, so the detail that matters to you survives the trip to the workshop.

Custom work runs on the same process as everything else we make. It's quoted properly, built to order in our Wiri workshop, and it holds to the same 4 to 6 week turnaround. Curved doesn't have to mean complicated.

• Curved rails - shaped top or bottom rails within a sash or door

• Curved frames - frames built to follow a radius
